Air arrivals in Greece in the period January-August 2024 increased, as 18.9 million international air arrivals were recorded, exceeding the levels of January-August 2023 (17.5 million), showing an increase of 8.0% or 1.4 million arrivals compared to last year.
According to data from the Bank of Greece and INSETE, there were 4.5 million arrivals in August 2024, an increase of 7.4%/+311 thousand from the corresponding month in 2023.
At the same time, individual geographical units recorded an increase in the period January–August 2024, with the exception of the Cyclades.
In particular, international air arrivals at regional airports amounted to 13.4 million, recording an increase of 6.0%/+761 thousand compared to 2023. In Crete, international air arrivals reached 3.9 million, an increase of 6.3%/+233 thousand; in the Dodecanese, 3.3 million, an increase of 10.6%/+314 thousand; and in the Ionian Islands, an increase of +5.2%/+145 thousand, for a total of 2.9 million international air arrivals. In the Peloponnese, arrivals amounted to 167 thousand, an increase of +12%/-18 thousand compared to 2023.
In contrast, the Cyclades recorded 1.0 million international air arrivals, showing a decrease of -1.0%/-10 thousand.
Finally, as regards travel receipts in the period January-July 2024, they recorded an increase of 5.6% compared to the corresponding period of 2023 and amounted to 10,953 million euros.
