Greece's rate of residential insurance coverage is 18.3%, as of December 31, 2023, as opposed to 18.2%. However, while the number of insured residential buildings did not actually increase, the percentage of those covered under the coverage for the property tax deduction increased by 6.3%.

As a result, property policies are gradually becoming more comprehensive with the full range of coverage for catastrophic events.

The above is derived from the quarterly survey conducted by the Hellenic Association of Insurance Companies to record the number of home insurance policies in order to monitor the trend and understand the impact of actions to fill the protection gap through private home insurance.

The new survey by the Hellenic Association of Insurance Companies covers policies that were in force as of 31 March 2024 and collected data on 1,166,065 policies (compared to 1,159,332 policies in force as of 31 December 2023).

In detail, of the insured homes with building coverage, those insured for weather and earthquake were 555,341 in the first quarter of 2024, i.e., 55.8% of the total; those insured for earthquake only were 251. 194 (25.3% of the total); those insured only for weather events were 144.764 (14.6% of the total); with mortgage interest 605.532 (60.9% of the total); and in Attica alone, 455.646 policies (45.8% of the total).

Insurance homes for weather and earthquake show an increase of 6.3% compared to the survey on 31/12/2023. This resulted in an increase in their share of total building insurance policies to 55.8% from 52.4% at 31/12/2023.
