Unemployment fell to 9.5% in August
The unemployment rate in Greece was also in the single digits in August, which stood at 9.5% compared to the upwardly revised 11.4% in August 2023 and 9.9% in July 2024.

The unemployment rate in Greece was also in the single digits in August, which stood at 9.5% compared to the upwardly revised 11.4% in August 2023 and 9.9% in July 2024. 

According to ELSTAT data, the number of employed persons amounted to 4,252,488 persons, an increase of 103,054 persons compared to August 2023 (2.5%) and 30,064 persons compared to July 2024 (0.7%). 

Also, the unemployed amounted to 444,402 persons, a decrease of 90,496 persons compared to August 2023 (-16.9%) and 17,551 persons compared to July 2024 (-3.8%).

Finally, persons under 75 years old not included in the labour force, or "persons outside the labour force", i.e. persons neither working nor looking for work, amounted to 3,076,851, a decrease of 41,278 persons compared to August 2023 (-1.3%) and of 14,749 persons compared to July 2024 (-0.5%). 

The graph below shows the evolution of the above figures since January 2010. Based on the methodology of the Labour Force Survey applied and in order to maintain the quality and representativeness of the Survey results in line with the sample design, the monthly data are updated by incorporating new units as soon as the corresponding data for the whole quarter are finalized in order to have 100% coverage of the sample. The sample of households and individuals of the Labour Force Survey is in the process of recalibration in line with the final disaggregated data of the 2021 Population Census.
