The Athens Stock Exchange recorded its ninth negative close in the last 10 sessions today, with sellers holding the reins since the beginning of the current week.

The Greek market, in this way, has now retreated close to the 1,400 supports, with the losses so far in October exceeding 2.7%, reversing the good "picture" of September.

The geopolitical crisis in the Middle East and "rich" equity offerings seem to be the two main factors behind this prolonged sluggishness, which has brought the distance from the 1,502-unit peaks to at least -6%.

Specifically, in the 4th session of the week, the General Index recorded a new 0.54% decline and finished near the daily low of 1,411.61 points, losing 7.5 points compared to Wednesday's close (1,419.27 points).

The arc of daily fluctuations was fixed at 11 points (from 1,411.56 to 1,422.30 points), with the turnover of transactions reaching 106 million euros, of which 20.5 million euros related to pre-agreed packages.

The banking index, which has been under considerable pressure lately, remained in downward territory, retreating -0.18% and 1,200 points (two-month low).

ΝΒG shares fell -0.19% to -0.19% and 7.422 euros; Piraeus' shares were down -0.89% and 3.667 euros; Alpha's shares traded -0.88% and 1.47 euros, while Eurobank's shares gained +0.82% and 1.97 euros.

In the high-cap index (-0.62% and 3,419 points), Cenergy's shares slipped -3.05% and 9.21 euros, pending the final result of the AMK, which had a price range of 9 to 9.86 euros. Shares of OTE, Jumbo, Lamda, Metlen, Aegean, and PPC fell 1.2% to 1.9%, while shares of Ellaktor and Viohalco lost 0.8% and 0.7%, respectively. In contrast, Autohellas shares reacted from 20-month lows and gained 0.58%. AIA: Coca-Cola shares also closed at +0.6%.

As for the mid-cap index (-0.67% and 2,276 points), Intralot's shares stood out negatively at -2% and EUR 1.058. Intracom and Intrakat slipped -1.7% and -1.1%, respectively, while shares of Profile, Quest, and Thrace Plastics folded more than 1%. Technical Olympiaki shares, meanwhile, were down nearly 2.5%, with the shares of HKE following at -0.90% and 4.4 euros. A special mention should be made of Attica Bank, which soared by 29%, putting a stop to the streak of heavy losses.
