An active role for central banks on climate and sustainability issues
Yannis Stournaras, the Governor of the Bank of Greece, made a mention of the role of central banks in addressing climate change and its effects on various economic sectors during the presentation of the updated National Plan for Climate and Energy (NCPEC).

Yannis Stournaras, the Governor of the Bank of Greece, made a mention of the role of central banks in addressing climate change and its effects on various economic sectors during the presentation of the updated National Plan for Climate and Energy (NCPEC).

Mr. Stournaras stressed that although the issue is primarily political, central banks have already taken an active role in climate and sustainability issues. 

Stressing that there is no room for complacency on the issue, he referred to the contribution of the BoE and its systematic action over the past 15 years on climate and sustainability issues.

Finally, Mr. Stournaras also noted that "minimising the cost of an ambitious energy transition, with the right planning and taking the appropriate actions, is of critical importance and for the benefit of the national economy.".
