Following the disclosure of the corruption scheme in the Corfu Tax Office, the Governor of the Independent Authority for Public Revenue, George Pitsilis, convened a teleconference with the heads of the tax offices and audit centers across the nation this morning.

According to the announcement of the Independent Authority for Public Revenue, as after the revelation of the Chalkida scheme, Mr. Pitsilis reminded that the AADE is working closely with every competent authority to uncover corruption at the Authority, and he will continue to address wherever necessary to solve similar cases.

"Like me personally, all of you, all of us that is, have a duty to protect the integrity, professionalism, and transparency in the operation of the agency. At the same time, it goes without saying that we must be absolutely consistent in meeting deadlines vis-à-vis citizens, especially in matters of tax refunds," he said, among other things.

The AADE Governor also called for institutional distance to be maintained in meetings with taxpayers and accountants. He finally noted that "it is the duty of all of us to isolate persons and behaviours that violate the law and operate against the principles and values of the AADE.".

Pitsilis today signed the order to suspend the persons involved from their duties and started the process of placing them on potential leave, in accordance with the law.

Already, auditors of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Independent Authority for Public Revenue are since noon in Corfu, with the aim—among other things—of checking the actions of all those involved in depth.
