Accommodation and catering turnover soared in August
The turnover of businesses operating in the accommodation and catering services sectors jumped by more than 10% in August, according to data from the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).

The turnover of businesses operating in the accommodation and catering services sectors jumped by more than 10% in August, according to data from the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).

Cumulatively for enterprises in the sectors of Accommodation and Food Services (sectors 55 and 56 of the NACE Rev.2 classification), with the obligation to keep double-entry books, for which data are available on a monthly basis, turnover in August 2024 amounted to €2,33 billion, an increase of 10.7% compared to August 2023, when it had amounted to €2,11 billion.

For enterprises in the accommodation sector, with the obligation to keep double-entry books, for which data are available on a monthly basis, turnover in August 2024 amounted to €1,99 billion, an increase of 10.9% compared to August 2023, when it amounted to €1,79 billion.

For enterprises in the catering services sector, with the obligation to keep double-entry books, for which data are available on a monthly basis, turnover in August 2024 amounted to 345,373,083 euros, an increase of 9.6% compared to August 2023, when it amounted to 315,047,023 euros.

For the regional units with a contribution to the total turnover of the year 2023 higher than 1.0%, the largest increase in turnover in August 2024 compared to August 2023 was observed in the regional unit of Rhodes (34.0%), and the smallest increase (3.2%) was recorded in the regional unit of Thessaloniki.

In individual tourist destinations, a 2.3% decrease in revenue was recorded in Santorini (69.4 million euros compared to 71.1 million in August 2023), while a small increase of 4.6% was recorded in Mykonos (99.3 million compared to 94.9 million), compared to a decrease in July.

Accommodation and catering in the prefectures of Crete moved with double-digit growth rates, between 10 and 19%, with the exception of Chania (+9.2%).
