A total of €800 million will be allocated, both from available funds and from private leverage, to the investments for the construction of the two logistics centres at the Gonou camp and Filis. Panagiotis Stamboulidis, Executive Member of the Board of Directors and Executive Advisor of the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund, made this observation in the context of the Southeast Europe Connectivity Forum II.
GONOS CAMP
Mr. Stamboulidis noted that on 15, the tender for the logistics at the former Gonou Camp in Thessaloniki will expire. He said the tender "has attracted the interest of investors—heavyweights from the logistics sector—for its creation, and by Christmas we will have reached a conclusion and from the new year we will be able to move forward quickly". In fact, he stressed that the extension for the tender that was granted was not due to fear of being declared inconclusive but instead as a result of the strong investor interest that had been expressed.
OPPORTUNITY Development
At the same time, he stressed the importance of the operation of the logistics centre in Gonou for the development of the region, but also in general, since apart from creating jobs, it will contribute to the development of infrastructure that is very useful for interconnectivity. He also stressed that these investments create a golden opportunity at a time when the country is experiencing a significant growth rate. Finally, he pointed out that with the investments and development of the PPA, but also the ports of Alexandroupolis, Kavala, Igoumenitsa, and Volos in the coming period, an integrated infrastructure system is being created.
