Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis

The government's commitments are already becoming reality, and the Greece of 2024 has nothing to do with the Greece of 2019, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said, speaking at the general assembly of the Association of Business and Industry held at the Athens Concert Hall.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis noted that the Economist ranked Greece among the top countries in entrepreneurship, adding that 500,000 new jobs have been created, with unemployment falling and wages rising. He also spoke about the dialogue of mutual commitments between the state and entrepreneurship.

"It is also useful to know the distances we have traveled, and these are not small. Because I really believe that the Greece of 2024 has nothing to do with the Greece of 2019. Our economy has come out of intensive care; it is recording one of the highest growth rates in Europe. The largest debt reduction in the world, the investment grade, is a fact after 14 years," he added.

TOURISM

"Tourism is setting a record; our exports of services and goods are now reaching 50% of GDP, with the contribution of industry and manufacturing even constituting a very serious qualitative change in the structure of our economy. We have practically closed half of the investment gap that separates us from the rest of Europe," he stressed, noting in particular that almost 500,000 new jobs have been created and unemployment is in single digits, while wages are rising, often exceeding inflation.

"I believe, Mr. President, dear members of SEV, without further ado, that now is the time for a new contract of action that will make the cooperation between the state and entrepreneurship more effective, with distinct roles, with clear rules, but also with common perspectives, so that this positive juncture can be quickly transformed into a new opportunity. The results of private initiative become part of collective prosperity. National progress is to be spread horizontally throughout society and across the country," the Prime Minister said.

He pointed out that in this direction, the government's commitments are already becoming reality, and the rates on corporate profits on dividends have already been significantly reduced.

The Prime Minister then referred to the reforms that the government is promoting that will enable the country to make a great leap forward in terms of investment.

"There is a given in our country today, which, although intangible, is a tangible national asset. And that is none other than political stability," the Prime Minister stressed, underscoring that this certainty of normality is ultimately the starting point for every step towards it, which ultimately shapes a positive investment climate that allows businesses to invest with greater security.

THE DRAGHI REPORT

He also said that he supported the Draghi report, which highlights the risk of Europe permanently losing ground to the United States, China tomorrow, and possibly India, and calls on all of us to take very bold decisions and ensure that our common European future can be looked forward to with optimism.

Finally, the Prime Minister concluded by saying, "Mr. President, you know that I am a politician who believes, as few others do, in a free economy in the context of a liberal policy that combines the development of the country with the individual well-being of its citizens. A state that does not define but regulates, so it is necessary, intervenes in a regulatory way. Precisely because I have these positions, I, in turn, want to be clear in the demands that the state has of you. There is no thriving economy without a cohesive society; there is no successful business without happy and productive employees."
