Italgas' contribution to EBITDA from Enaon EDA's activities in Greece amounts to €100 million. The Italian group plans to continue its investments in the country, estimating that these will exceed €100 million by the end of the year.

As Italgas CEO Paolo Gallo noted, speaking to analysts, the results in Greece exceeded the expectations that had been created: "In these two years in Greece, we have made significant progress. We have leveraged our expertise to develop gas infrastructure and distribution services, achieving significant progress. From a financial perspective, in the first nine months of 2024, we have invested just under €90 million and expect to exceed €100 million by the end of the year."

€1 BILLION OF INVESTMENTS.

The group is focused on achieving the infrastructure targets it has set in terms of smart meters installed, network kilometers, and new connections. As he noted, "from an investment point of view, we have accelerated our actions, digitising and extending the network in areas not yet served and launching the first LNG plants, deployed in record time following the model created in Sardinia.". According to Italgas' Strategic Plan for 2024-2030, €1 billion of investments are foreseen in Greece for the expansion of the gas distribution network, its digital transformation, the penetration of gas in areas not yet served, and the distribution of renewable gases.  At the same time, the group plans to use the monitoring and operation technology applied to the gas distribution network in Italy for Enaon EDA's infrastructure in Greece. The completion of the network digitization is expected to take place over the next two years with the installation of new technologies and systems.

NETWORK EXPANSION

The planned investments include:

  •  the extension of the Greek network from 7,924 km in 2023 to over 11,000 km by 2030;
  • the increase in the number of consumers served from 600,000 in 2023 to approximately 1 million by the end of the decade; -
  • the development of a control centre at Enaon EDA's headquarters in Athens, with a view to becoming operational in 2025
