The proposed Greek Commissioner Apostolos Tzitzikostas for the Sustainable Transport and Tourism portfolio for the next five years at the European Commission has been approved.
Following the conclusion of the hearing of Mr. Tzitzikostas in the European Parliament's Transport and Tourism Committee, which lasted more than three hours, the coordinators of the political groups met to assess his nomination.
According to reports, Mr. Tzitzikosta's candidacy was voted against by the new far-right political group in the European Parliament, 'Europe of the Sovereign Nations', which includes the German AfD party, while the European Left voted 'abstention'.
The chair of the Transport and Tourism Committee and New Democracy MEP Elisa Wozenberg commented via X that "the procedure was transparent and democratic.".
