DEPA Commercial has a central role in a series of strategic infrastructure projects that offer alternative routes for the supply of natural gas, enhancing the country's energy autonomy while at the same time implementing steps to become an integrated vertically integrated player in the energy market.  At the same time, in cooperation with PPC, DAMCO, and DEPA, DEPA is constructing an 840 MW natural gas plant in Alexandroupolis capable of replacing three polluting lignite plants and supporting intermittent generation from renewable energy sources. The plant is expected to be operational by the end of 2025. In addition, it is involved in a 174 MW plant under construction in Albania. A long-term gas supply contract from DEPA is also foreseen for this plant.

ARBITRATION

According to reports, the International Arbitration on the DEPA Commercial-Gazprom contract has been running for a few days. Sources on the Greek side, which has appealed to the process, believe that the arguments are in its favour and expect that the decision expected next September will vindicate it. The reason for the appeal relates to the price at which the Russian company supplied it with natural gas in the period 2022-2023. The contract between the two companies provided for a negotiation procedure prior to the appeal, which, however, was time-consuming and did not pay off. It is noted that DEPA is also requesting a retroactive price adjustment under the contract from 2022.

INVESTMENTS IN RES

"We hope within 2025 to have more mature projects to reach a 1 GW portfolio," DEPA Commercial CEO Konstantinos Xifaras noted, speaking at the 7th Athens Investment Forum on the company's moves in the RES sector. It is noted that a contractor is expected to be selected next week for the construction of photovoltaic plants with a total capacity of 500 MW in Farsala and Kozani. In addition, the company is launching new 225 MW projects, while it is negotiating the acquisition of 150 MW parks that are close to becoming operational, preparing its moves to add batteries to future projects and considering the prospects of adding wind farms to its portfolio.
