After being ousted as president and barred from rerunning for the SYRIZA presidency, Stefanos Kasselakis today announced the formation of his new party. "Today we are creating a movement of democracy, free citizens, a movement of progress," he said.
"Finally smiles of joy; today is a joyful day," Stefanos Kasselakis said. "We are building the movement for the democracy of free citizens and for progress.".
Hundreds of supporters were gathered early in the office area and outside, waiting patiently for more than an hour and a half until he began his speech. On the name of the new party, he said, "You will decide a name, you, the Progress Movement; you will be the owners, and the president will be your servant."
Recalled that the resignation and independence from SYRIZA announced the MP, Alexandros Avlonitis. Avlonitis denounced the congress proceedings, stressing that "this is not my party".
The MP Petros Pappas of Kilkis announced his intention to become independent from the SYRIZA parliamentary group. Pappas left the congress, stating that he will become independent in the near future and denouncing "violence and fraud".
Ralia Christidou is the third party MP to announce her departure from SYRIZA. She informed that she will not give up her seat.
