Orders for 10 new tankers
Kyriakou family remains committed to the shipping business. From next year, 10 new tankers under construction by Athenian Sea Carriers will start to be delivered to the yards of the Chinese company, Wuchang Shipbuilding.

The last very large tanker and the only ship in its fleet was sold by Athenian Sea Carriers, which was founded by the late Minos Kyriakou and has now passed under the control of his son, Theo. It is a VLCC, built in 2013, named after the father of the group's founder, Captain Xenophon Kyriakou.

However, those who are quick to jump to the conclusion that the family is exiting the shipping business are deceiving themselves. From next year, 10 new tankers under construction by Athenian Sea Carriers will start to be delivered to the yards of the Chinese company, Wuchang Shipbuilding. The 10 tankers, with a capacity of 18,500 dwt—much smaller than the ships the company has been operating so far—are to be delivered between 2025 and 2027. The first eight such ships, ordered by Athenian last year, were reported to cost around $30 million each, bringing the total investment to over $300 million
