AKTOR Group of Companies participates as the leader of the consortium, which, following a tender procedure of the Region of Attica, undertook the project "Supply, installation and operation of electronic means of monitoring violations of the traffic code.". Mr. Anastasios Aranitis, General Manager of the Group, signed the contract today on behalf of the AKTOR Group.

This is an important contract, amounting to €17.8 million, which aspires to bring "smart" cameras of a new generation to the roads of Attica in the context of combating violations of the Highway Code (KOK) and improving road safety.

In particular, the project involves the supply and installation of 388 cameras for monitoring red traffic light violations, 330 galvanised support masts, and the relevant management software. The cameras will be installed at selected traffic light junctions of the Attica Region and will be capable of detecting vehicles travelling at speeds of up to 250 km/h, according to the tender document. The operation of the red traffic light will automatically activate the cameras.

Each device will be capable of simultaneously detecting at least 2 lanes of traffic and recording the vehicle's registration plate, photographs and video of the infringement. Subsequently, the data of the violations, collected by the cameras, will be stored and sent in classified form—via a mobile network—to central computers, which will be installed for this purpose in selected Traffic Police Departments in the Attica Region for their own actions.

The European Recovery and Resilience Fund's Road Safety Improvement Programme for the National and District Road Network will cover the cost of the contract.
