DEPA Commercial announced the start of work on the first green hydrogen refuelling station in Greece, as part of the European LIFE GREENHORN project.

The facility, which is expected to be completed and operational in Kozani by 2028, marks an important step towards the green transition, with innovations that incorporate modern hydrogen production and distribution technologies.

The LIFE GREENHORN project focuses on the on-site production of green hydrogen through a 500 kW electrolysis plant (electrolyser), powered by electricity from renewable sources, namely through a PPA with photovoltaic parks of DEPA Commercial.

The hydrogen produced will be compressed, stored and distributed through the Hydrogen Refuelling Station (HRS) at three pressure levels to serve different/various vehicles.

  • 200 bar for scooters and sweepers.
  • 350 bar for heavy vehicles.
  • 700 bar for passenger vehicles.

"Our initiative for the first green hydrogen refuelling station in Greece, in collaboration with our partners in the LIFE GREENHORN project, is not only an innovative technological venture but also a breakthrough in our country's transition to clean forms of energy," DEPA Commercial CEO Konstantinos Xifaras commented. "Our goal is to harness renewable energy sources and promote sustainable mobility, strengthening DEPA Emporia's role as a key pillar in the country's energy sector."
