The market has been very interested in DESFA's current auction process for the commitment of unloading slots and gasification capacity at the Revithoussa LNG Terminal. An indicator of the high demand is the fact that all but four slots, for the period 2025-2030, have already been reserved, confirming the key role of Revithoussa for the energy sufficiency of Greece and the wider region and reflecting the growing market confidence in the country's LNG infrastructure.
The increased use of Revithoussa reinforces Greece's position as a regional energy hub, contributing to the diversification of energy sources and enhancing energy security in full alignment with the strategic objectives of the Vertical Corridor. Greece's LNG exports are expected to increase significantly in the coming years, thanks to the upgrading and expansion of the country's natural gas infrastructure through projects such as the Karperi-Komotini pipeline, as well as the booster compression stations at Ambelia, Komotini, and Nea Mesimvria, which will further enhance export capacity to international markets.
In particular, all 41 slots offered were committed for the year 2025, corresponding to the offloading of a total of 35 TWh. Similarly, in this year's auction for 2026, 21 of the 22 total slots offered were committed for the offloading of 35 TWh out of the total quantity of 35.5 TWh offered. For 2027, all 44 offered slots were committed, corresponding to the landing of 36.5 TWh. Similarly, for 2028, all 44 offered slots were committed, accommodating the offloading of a total quantity of 35 TWh. For the year 2029, all 43 offered slots were committed, serving the offloading of a quantity of 35.5 TWh. Finally, for the year 2030, 40 of the offered slots were reserved, corresponding to a quantity of 33.5 TWh.
DESFA's ongoing auctions cover the period 2025-2039 and are expected to be completed in mid-February 2025. DESFA's annual unloading and capacity commitment planning process since 2020 is based on market mechanisms (auctions) and ensures the efficient use of the Revithoussa LNG facility in line with the changing conditions in the Greek and international LNG market.
