PPC Group's enhanced role in energy security and geopolitical stability in the Southeastern European region was the focus of the President and CEO of PPC Group, Mr. Georgios Stassis, during his keynote speech at the conference "Geopolitics and Energy Security: a Brussels Conversation" held in Brussels on Monday 25 November at the German Marshall Fund of the United States in cooperation with the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).

"Energy is not just a commodity. It is a foundation of economic stability and security. The choices we make today not only shape the energy landscape but also affect the economic prosperity of our region," said the Chairman and CEO of PPC Group, explaining that as PPC is now the largest utility company in SE Europe, it has a more important role and greater responsibility.

As the PPC CEO stressed, the Group's role is now about encompassing energy security in the region and promoting growth and progress through affordable and innovative solutions. "Southeast Europe is at the crossroads of critical energy transmission routes. And as such, we have a key role to play in the wider European energy security and development," Stassis said.

"Decarbonisation is no longer a matter of choice, nor of whether or not we believe in climate change. It is a question of energy security," Stassis assessed, explaining the importance of the role of South-East Europe and its key position in the energy transport corridors.

In a lively one-day series of discussions at the crossroads of energy, geopolitics and competitiveness on both sides of the Atlantic, Stassis made extensive reference to Europe's long-standing cooperation with the US, stressing that "without US LNG, the Old Continent would have found itself in a very difficult position with no obvious alternatives."

During the forum, senior executives, officials and experts, including leaders from the EU and NATO, discussed how changing geopolitical conditions and diversifying supply chains affect energy security. In this context, positions focused on whether the US and Europe can be on the same page regarding the energy transition and the technologies and policies to support it.
