The Athens Stock Exchange reacted like a "compressed spring" in today's session after the Greek Prime Minister completely cleared the landscape regarding the scenarios of extraordinary taxation of banks, scenarios that had been cultivated and maintained in the recent past.
It is no coincidence that the General Index soared by +2.21%, achieving the highest daily gains of this year—the rise exceeded 30 basis points compared to Friday's close (1,393.49 points)—and ending at 1,424.33 points.
A turnover of 124 million euros, of which 15.9 million euros were pre-agreed packages, set the arc of daily fluctuations at 27 points (from 1,399.30 to 1,426.40 points).
The banking index, boosted by the denial of the rumour about the extraordinary tax, "flew" to +4.67% and 1,202 points, "picking up" at -11% the deviation from this year's highs (1,354 points) and recovering dynamically from 10-month lows.
Eurobank shares climbed +5.60% to +€2,112, Alpha shares followed at +4.94% and €1,539, Piraeus shares traded +4.76% and €3.63, while National Bank shares rose +4.17% to +4.17% and €6,944.
In the high-cap index (+2.83% and 3,451 points), apart from the banks, Metlen, Viohalco and ELVALHALCOR shares gained more than +3%, while the rise for Ellaktor, PPC, Aegean, Helleniq Energy, Cenergy and Motor Oil was set at +2%. In fact, the latter returned above 20 euros for the first time since October 29. Beyond that, shares of AIA, Jumbo, Autohellas and Coca-Cola expanded by more than 1%. Titan Cement and GEK Terna closed at new multi-year highs of 39.8 and 18.8 euros, up 2.7% and 1%, respectively. On the flip side, Lamda shares fell slightly by 0.2%.
As for the mid-cap index (+0.78% and 2,262 points), the shares of EXAE stood out positively at +2.8% and 4.46 euros, amid expectations for the results of the London Stock Exchange conference, which takes place today and tomorrow with the blessing of Morgan Stanley. At the same time, shares of Intralot, Intracom, Quest and Ideal rose more than +1%. A special mention should be made of Lavipharm, which "flew" +3.1%. On the other hand, Intrakat's shares were reduced to -0.8%, or 4.8 euros, while Kri Kri's shares corrected by 1%.
