The new passenger terminal, which will be built within the port of Souda, will consist of a basement, ground floor, first floor and mezzanine and will be organised in three sections:
- The base includes reception areas, validation-check-in areas, offices, customs, tourist police, and sanitary facilities.
- The shell includes waiting areas that have the potential to separate domestic and cruise passengers, as well as the possibility of incorporating metal inspection areas and corresponding sanitary areas.
- The design includes an open-air roof (belvedere) for departing passengers, which is open to the view and the bay, providing a possibility to exploit the visual field of the port.
The aim of the project is the qualitative and functional upgrading of the port of Souda with the creation of high-quality port infrastructure and the enhancement of tourism development prospects in the wider region. The Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy has entrusted the Strategic Contracts Unit of TAIPED with the tendering of critical projects for the upgrading of dozens of port infrastructures in island regions, so that in the coming years the country's ports can become a strong driver of sustainable development.
