Helleniq Energy, through its subsidiary HELLENiQ Renewables, has added 110 MW of photovoltaic projects in Kozani Prefecture to its already large portfolio in the region, rapidly implementing its strategic transformation plan "Vision 2025.".
It is a group of six photovoltaic plants with bifacial modules and the newest Energy Management System (EMS). Kozani's new High Voltage Center (HVDC) links these plants, enabling them to function as a single project. They have already entered full commercial operation by May 2024 and have long-term corporate PPAs to provide "green" electricity to a leading international company. The potential for total annual generation is approximately 175 GWh, providing low-emission clean energy to over 41,000 households, and the estimated reduction in carbon emissions is 98,000 metric tons annually.
The acquisition of this portfolio follows an agreement with Lightsource bp. The project is Helleniq Energy's second-largest park with photovoltaic systems in Greece. Together with the existing 204.3 MW park, also in Kozani, it marks the largest integrated PV investment in the region, with a total capacity of more than 314 MW.
Upon completion of these parks, the group will achieve a total production capacity of 500 MW, generating 1 TWh annually. This means that Helleniq Energy can quickly start putting its strategic plan into action, which calls for installing 1 GW of RES capacity.
"This investment is another important milestone in the path we have set out to consolidate Hilton Energy's leading role in the new era of energy. We are dynamically developing the second major pillar of our group, which is diversifying, carbonizing and modernizing. Our subsidiary, HELLENiQ Renewables, is one of the fastest-growing renewable energy companies in Europe, with a broad portfolio of projects under development of over 5 GW in 3 SE European countries. We now have an installed capacity of 0.5 GW, which will soon exceed 1 GW, when 3.5 years ago our operating projects were limited to 28 MW. With investments such as the new 110 MW photovoltaic park, we are actively supporting the ambitious national targets for the green transition and strengthening the country's efforts for energy sufficiency and security," said Giorgos Alexopoulos, Deputy CEO and General Manager of Strategic Planning and New Activities of the Group.
