Tenaris and IGI Poseidon - a joint venture between DEPA International Projects and Edison SpA of Italy - have agreed to cooperate in promoting the transport of hydrogen through high-pressure subsea pipelines in depth.
The cooperation focuses on two main areas: the safe transport of hydrogen under extreme conditions and keeping transport costs low to ensure the economic viability of the pipelines. It is implemented through joint certification tests for high-pressure subsea pipelines, combining the two companies' expertise in energy infrastructure and pipe technology.
"Our goal at IGI Poseidon is to develop infrastructure that ensures diversified and competitive energy for the future," said Fabrizio Mattana, CEO of IGI Poseidon. "This partnership is a natural extension of our vision, which is evolving to support Europe's ambitious climate goals."
Konstantinos Xifaras, Chairman of the Board of Directors of IGI Poseidon, noted: "This partnership is an important step towards a sustainable energy future. By combining our expertise with Tenaris' advanced materials technology, we are strengthening our commitment to hydrogen transportation and innovation."
Philippe Darcis, Director of Pipeline Technology at Tenaris, said: "Our contribution to research on material performance in hydrogen environments is a critical part of our strategy. We are using our R&D expertise and capabilities to support the development of next-generation hydrogen transport networks."
The results of the study are expected in 2025 and will provide a reliable assessment of the impact of increased pressure during hydrogen transport at 100%.
