Over €7.8 million is expected to be contributed annually to the country's finances by the new European logistics center developed by Huawei in Greece, within the Piraeus Cargo Management and Distribution Center (PCDC), in order to strengthen our country's position as a gateway and hub of SE Europe.

THE FOOTPRINT IN GRACE

Huawei's CEO in SE Europe, Jacky Chen, said that the technology company started 20 years ago in Greece with a small office and 7 employees and more:

  • has its headquarters in Greece for 7 other countries
  • It employs over 200 employees, of which 80% are Greeks (not only technical experts but also executives at every level)
  • has contributed over €400 million to the Greek economy through taxes and local suppliers
  • has invested over €1 million in training programmes, which have been attended by over 3,000 beneficiaries
  • has invested €700 thousand in nature conservation in cooperation with NGOs
built and produced 4,000 MW of green energy, strengthening the country's energy autonomy

THE PORT HUB

This strategic, as it was described, initiative by Huawei to create the European logistics hub in Greece once again highlights, according to Mr. Chen, the importance of the Port of Piraeus as a global hub in the supply chain of Europe and Africa. In addition, the new European logistics centre is expected to create over 30 jobs and is estimated to record an annual growth rate of 10%.

OBJECTIVES

In the first phase, the new warehouse will only serve Europe, and according to what Huawei sources told BnB Daily, the goal in the medium term is to become a hub for North Africa as well. As Chen said, the new European logistics hub was set up by Huawei to minimise the transportation time of the company's containers and ensure that they are delivered from China to Europe in a timely and efficient manner. The port of Piraeus is the closest point for transporting goods from China to Europe, as it takes only 20 days by sea for containers from China to reach the port. The alternative via Cape of Good Hope takes 40 days. It is worth mentioning that this year alone 2,500 containers were transported from Piraeus to Europe, an increase of 10% compared to last year.

NETWORK IN 170 COUNTRIES

It is noted that Huawei's network is deployed in 170 countries, and with 500,000 cubic meters of payload capacity and 4 supply centers, it serves over 10,000 partners. Huawei serves over 3 billion people worldwide.
