The second session of 2025 on the Athens Stock Exchange was completed with a positive sign, which remained on a convergence track with the target of 1,502 points.
Despite the downward start and losses in the rest of Europe, the Greek market found the necessary supports to maintain the upward momentum and take another step towards the "peaks" of the last 13–14 years.
Athens' ally this time was bank stocks, which managed to reverse the initially negative picture and provide valuable support, helping to keep buyers in control.
As a result, the General Index rose +0.40% to 1,486.83 points, closing close to the high of the day and gaining about six points compared to Thursday's close (1,480.98 points).
The arc of daily fluctuations was fixed at 16 points (from 1,474.85 to 1,490.87 points), with the turnover of transactions remaining at low levels, in particular at 85 million euros, of which 6.7 million euros related to pre-agreed packages.
Piraeus shares improved to +2.03% and 4.02 euros (4-month high), Alpha shares widened to +2.04% and 1.65 euros (5-month high), Eurobank shares traded +1.20% and 2.284 euros (9-year high), while National Bank shares rose +1.46% and 7.76 euros.
In the high-cap index (+0.49% and 3,619 points), Lamda Development shares climbed +3.19% and 7.45 euros, approaching recent highs of 7.6 euros. ELVALHALKOR shares followed at +1.9% and 2.08 euros, hitting a 7-month high. Cenergy, Viohalco and Aegean gained between +1% and +1.7%. On the flip side, Hellaktor shares, after the huge rally of the last few days (+19%), corrected to -1.2% and 2.3 euros. The PPC share also retreated by 1.2%, which halted its upward streak, while Jumbo and Titan shares lost 1.3% and 1.1%, respectively.
As for the mid-cap index (+0.71% and 2,393 points), the shares of EXAE stood out positively at +2.3% and 4.75 euros, which is a 5-month high. AvAX also continued its rally, which gained +2.4%. Noval, Thrace Plastics, Ideal and Dimand expanded by more than 1%, while Autohellas shares soared +3% to €10.6. In contrast, Quest shares retreated to -1.6% and EUR 5.8.
