Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis referred to the course of the Greek economy in 2024 and the government's new targets for 2025 in a post on social media.
In detail, Mr. Mitsotakis' Facebook post states that:
"The first post on 2025 is about entrepreneurship.
In 2024 was a landmark year for Greek business, as according to the data of the General Registry of Commerce and Industry, 64,262 new businesses were founded, recording an 11% increase compared to 2023. This is the highest level in recent years, with an overall increase of 50% compared to 2020.
It is further proof that the Greek economy is on the road to recovery. Every business that goes out of business—mainly sole proprietorships or seasonal businesses—for retirement or conversion to a new structure is replaced by three new ones. In fact, the number of enterprises that are closing down is down by 11% compared to last year. Sectors such as retail and wholesale trade, catering, tourism and technical professions continue to lead the way. At the same time, strengthening industry and manufacturing, whose contribution in 2024 was also significant, remains a strategic goal of the government.
This course is not a coincidence. It is the result of everyone's efforts: the government building a stable and friendly environment for investment, and of course the Greek entrepreneurs who continue to innovate and move forward.
2025 starts with optimism and momentum. Our commitment is to further improve the business and investment environment by further strengthening infrastructure, further reducing bureaucracy and ensuring that every new idea finds the right ground to grow. So I hope that 2025 will be an equally successful year!"
