Applications for the "Batteries for Business" program to subsidise companies of all sizes to install batteries and increase their use of green energy to meet their electricity needs start today. However, a condition for inclusion in the program is the existence of photovoltaic systems or the intention to install them without a subsidy.

Under the scheme, the energy production from the PV system should be mainly channelled to the company's consumption, and the excess production can be used to charge the battery. In the case, on the contrary, where the production of the photovoltaic system is not sufficient for the needs of the enterprise, then the energy from the battery will be used and subsequently the energy from the grid. It is noted that the battery should be annually charged by 75% from the photovoltaic on an annual basis.

Applications for the €153.7 million program will remain open until 28 February. Of these 

• €100 million will be given to micro and small enterprises.
• €53.7 million will go to medium and large companies

APPLICATIONS

The grants will be allocated as follows: 

• 50% to micro enterprises
• 40% to medium-sized enterprises
• 30% to large enterprises

In addition, subsidies are foreseen for the technical study of the system, for the interconnection costs and for batteries at 

• €400,000/MWh (for a 1-hour battery)
• €350 000/MWh (for a battery with a capacity of 1 to 2 hours)

Applications will be evaluated on a first come, first served basis until the budget is exhausted. Following this, we will designate the remaining applications as runners-up, assigning them a time stamp from their submission. Also, in case there are unallocated funds left in one category of enterprises, then the balance may be allocated to another category to subsidize the runner-up applications.
