The significant increase in wealth creation activity, especially in Greece, where the appetite for investment has accelerated dramatically, with the number of Revolut customers in the country opening investment accounts increasing by 212%, highlights new research on investment trends in Greece and Europe in 2024.

Last year, the size of the average Revolut investment account in Greece reached €4,010, recording a 68% increase from 2023. Greece was among the first pilot countries of the Revolut Invest App, a standalone app for qualified investors.

WOMEN

While in the investment sector men hold over 4 times more accounts than women and almost 3 times larger portfolios on average (€8,000 vs. €2,889), women are rapidly entering the retail investment space. Revolut recorded a remarkable 188% increase in Greek women opening investment accounts in 2024, surpassing the 165% increase among men. The average Greek investor is millennial, aged 34.

THE MAIN TRENDS

Technology stocks dominated investment trends in Greece and across Europe in 2024. Nvidia was the US stock with the most purchases and sales among Greeks, with its shares soaring 186%.

The Vanguard S&P 500 UCITS ETF (Acc) was the most traded ETF in Greece, rising an impressive 35% in 2024. Airbus was the most bought and sold European stock, while the European Investment Bank topped the list of preferred purchase bonds.

Greek investors showed a preference for a variety of asset classes, with investment portfolios consisting on average of 53% mutual funds, 31% US and EU equities and 16% ETFs.
