In €75 million are the works completed in 432 intervention points after the bad weather that hit Thessaly. According to the Regional Governor, Dimitris Kouretas, after September 1, 2024, the projects to be implemented amount to €42 million, while the total budget for the restoration of the region amounts to €117 million.
THE MASTER PLAN FOR PINEIOS
The regional authority's priority is flood protection projects such as the Masterplan being developed for the Pineios River, support for public health and socially vulnerable groups, strengthening agri-food and linking it to tourism and culture, and the construction of sports centres in areas in need.

These, he said, are expected to be completed in 2026, while the creation of structured flood zones along the rivers is also planned.
THE NEW TECHNOLOGIES
At the heart of Thessaly's restoration strategy stands the first Civil Protection Coordination Centre (CCCC), which utilises a state-of-the-art Geoinformation Data System (GIS), which allows real-time monitoring of meteorological data and natural phenomena.
The network includes:
50 meteorological stations in cooperation with the Athens Observatory
7 air quality measurement stations, with 7 stations measuring air quality
14 river level measurement points
70+ cameras in sensitive areas of the Region
Through this infrastructure, early warning of citizens of dangerous phenomena is achieved.
