New 14-year high with rally in banks and Motor Oil
The Athens Stock Exchange reached new "peaks" today (17/1), with buyers maintaining the "reins" for the 4th consecutive session and bid farewell to another positive week.

The Athens Stock Exchange reached new "peaks" today (17/1), with buyers maintaining the "reins" for the 4th consecutive session and bid farewell to another positive week.

Specifically, in the last session of the week, the General Index posted a remarkable +1.18% increase to 1,524.67 points, gaining about 18 points compared to Thursday's close (1,506.83 points).

The arc of daily fluctuations was fixed at 17 points (from 1,507.30 to 1,524.67 points), with a turnover of 187.4 million euros, of which 29.7 million euros related to pre-agreed packages. 

On a weekly basis, the change in the main stock index was +1.4%.

The banking index, which is the "protagonist" of 2025 with a cumulative change of more than +10%, continued to climb to 9-year highs, closing at +2.95% and 1,415 points.

Eurobank shares soared +4.53% and EUR 2.49, Piraeus shares followed at +2.47% and EUR 4.319 (high since April 21), National Bank shares traded +2.08% and EUR 8.33 (6-month high), while Alpha shares rose +2.77% and EUR 1.778 (10-month high).

A special mention should be made of Cyprus, which gained +2.21% and 5.08 euros, having left behind the listing price of last September (4.7 euros) and climbing to a new all-time high.

In the high-cap index (+1.49% and 3,699 points), Motor Oil shares expanded to +3.24% and 21.6 euros, boosted by the new allocation of 550,000 Treasury shares, this time at a price of 20.85 euros. Optima and Ellaktor shares rose by 2.7%, while OTE and Viohalco shares gained more than +1%. Coca-Cola, Sarantis and OPAP followed slightly below +1%, while Helleniq Energy shares gained +0.7% to finish at EUR 7.7, as shareholders today vested the right to the EUR 0.20 pre-dividend. On the other hand, Jumbo's shares fell by 1%.

As for the mid-cap index (-0.16% and 2,411 points), ADMIE shares, in the shadow of the developments with Cyprus, slumped -3.7% and 2.7 euros, correcting from recent highs of 2.8 euros. PPA shares were also down 2.2%, landing at 28.4 euros. On the flip side, Lavipharm shares gained +2.2%, while shares of Quest, EXAE and Intracom gained more than +1%. In the case of PPA, the stock folded -0.6% and fell to EUR 29.1, although it remained significantly higher than the price of Leonidsport's public offer (EUR 27).
