Within the week, the tender and the study for hydrocarbon exploration is expected, said the Minister of Energy and Environment, Theo Skylakakis.
Speaking to SKAI, Mr. Skylakakis pointed out that a very large area is being granted to Exxon and Chevron for exploration, stressing that this is a high-risk and technically complex activity.
Mr. Skylakakis stressed that both the tender in question and the environmental study are "finished" projects. "Chevron has had interest for years, but had not expressed it and did so specifically in the last six months," he noted.
At the same time, he stressed that a serious government must give large areas of land and ensure the participation of the best in the sector, which he said is already happening. In fact, he noted that the area given has increased by 25 percent.
It will be recalled that Chevron has submitted a request for exploration in the sea area southwest of the Peloponnese and as far west as Crete, in the context of the wider momentum that hydrocarbons have gained, especially since Trump's election on the other side of the Atlantic.
