Panagiotis Stamboulidis, Head of the Strategic Significance Contracts Unit, representing the GrowthFund, referred to the projects that are currently underway with the direct objective, among others, of upgrading the country's operational capacity in the face of climate change, in the context of the 1st Forum for Thessaly, which is being held today in the city of Volos.
"We have huge interventions in a very concentrated time," he said, adding that the vast majority of these projects are funded by the Recovery Fund and the Greece 2.0 program.
According to the statement, specifically for Thessaly, Stamboulides focused on three axes of action:
- Flooding: These are projects that seek to upgrade the forest ecosystem through prevention. This year, €200 million will be put out to tender, while the program will reach €600 million over time.
- Hospitals & Health Centres: As pointed out by the Growthfund executive, 18 million euros of projects have already been contracted for the upgrading of hospitals and health centers in Thessaly.
- Cleaning and opening of fire zones, with thousands of acres "cleaned" in Thessaly and all over Greece.
Regarding the port of Volos, Stamboulidis argued that the port should be returned to the state it was in before Daniel. It is not an easy task, he noted, adding that the crews have already started work. The aim, he said, is to have the work completed before the start of the tourist season so that another year of cruising is not lost.
Concluding, after sending a message that not a single euro should be lost from the funding of the Recovery Fund, Mr. Stamboulidis made known that the Commission's approval is expected for the participation of the Super Fund in the NSRF projects, which are too many, throughout Thessaly.
