The total number of arrivals in Greece reached 29.3 million in 2024, an increase of +2.6 million / +9.7% compared to 2023, when 26.7 million passengers were recorded, according to the data of a periodic study by INSETE entitled "International Air Arrivals: 2023-2024.".

The INSETE study records total international air arrivals in 2024. Specifically:

  • At Athens International Airport (AIA), it was 11.1 million compared to 9.7 million in 2023, an increase of +1.5 million passengers or +15.3%.
  • At Thessaloniki airport, it was 2.5 million compared to 2.4 million in 2023, an increase of +91 thousand passengers or +3.9%.
  • At regional airports, it reached 15.8 million compared to 14.8 million in 2023, an increase of +1.0 million passengers or +7.0%.

The UK market remained in first place in terms of international origin passengers with 5.3 million arrivals, showing a percentage increase (+7.2%) or +351 thousand in absolute terms.

Germany remained in second place with 4.8 million passengers, showing the highest growth in absolute terms of +389 thousand passengers (+8.8%).

The top 5 main markets for the DAA include. UK, France and Cyprus. The top 5 main markets for Thessaloniki airport include: Γερμανία, Ην. UK, Cyprus, Italy, Italy and Poland. The top 5 main markets for regional airports include: Ην. UK, Germany, Italy, Germany, Italy, Poland and France.

Note that international arrivals at the top five airports account for 76% of all international arrivals in 2024. The largest percentage increase was in Turkey with +25.3%. Hungary +25% and the USA +24.2% followed closely behind. The peak month for air arrivals in 2024 was July, as 5.0 million air arrivals were recorded, accounting for 16.9% of the 2024 total.

According to INSETE, there are signs of a widening tourist season, as the June-September period saw single-digit growth in international arrivals, while the other months saw double-digit growth.
