Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis highlighted the government initiatives aimed at bringing Greece to the forefront of European developments in the field of artificial intelligence, as he addressed the AI Action Summit in Paris.
As Mr Mitsotakis stressed, "Greece is participating in the international conference on artificial intelligence essentially as a co-shaper of European developments in this crucial area".
"We are one of the first countries to have developed a coherent national strategy on AI. We are one of the seven European countries that have been awarded the 'AI Factory', a major European funding initiative for the development of AI infrastructure in European countries," the Prime Minister said.
He also noted that Greece "has an extremely rich scientific talent active in the field of artificial intelligence" and is "a country in which many large foreign technology companies have already invested, creating large data processing centres, large data centres".He also underlined that "we are a country that can be at the forefront of smart interventions in order to be able to control the negative effects of AI, and we are a country that is already using AI to improve the efficiency and productivity of public administration."
"I look forward to a series of substantive meetings and our ability, as I said, not only to be able to use AI to make a 'productivity revolution' in our country, but also to be able to identify those areas where state intervention is needed to limit its negative effects," Mitsotakis said.
He referred in particular to the mental health issues of children and young people, an issue on which Greece, he said, "has already played a leading role in order to ensure that our children and adolescents do not suffer negative effects on their mental health as a result of their exposure to social media and information processed by artificial intelligence".
