
Inflation in Greece showed a slight downward trend in February, with food prices remaining nearly unchanged but experiencing multiple significant price increases in various categories, such as housing, clothing, natural gas, and hotels.
Specifically, as announced by ELSTAT, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in February recorded a 2.5% increase compared to the index a year earlier, slowing down from 2.7% in January. In the comparison between January and February, the CPI showed a decrease of 0.1%, following a monthly decline of 0.7% when comparing January to December.
As previously mentioned, the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages category experienced a marginal increase of 0.2% compared to a year ago; however, clothing and footwear rose by 6.4%, housing by 5.1%, hotels, cafes, and restaurants by 5.5%, and health services by 3.4%.
In terms of specific goods, natural gas prices saw an explosive increase of 41.1% over the past year, with hotels, motels, and guesthouses up by 17.5%, air passenger transport by 10.8%, and health insurance premiums by 7%. At the same time, olive oil prices were significantly reduced by 16.9%, although other edible oils saw an increase of 11%.
