The final contractor for the last major road concession project, covering the section from Chania to Heraklion of the Northern Road Axis of Crete (V.O.A.K.), is now the GEK TERNA group.
In a decision made today by the Ministry of Infrastructure, the group has received the "green light," having been designated as the provisional contractor back in April 2023, nearly a year ago. The next step involves the approval of the concession contract by the Court of Auditors, followed by its signing and ratification by Parliament. However, substantial time will be needed before construction can commence, as the project's study must be finalized and necessary expropriations completed. The contract is valued at approximately 2 billion euros, with a concession period of 35 years, and the project stretches over 157.5 kilometers. It is expected to be funded through resources from the Recovery Fund, amounting to 200 million euros.
