
In the first two months of 2025, passenger traffic across the country's airports experienced a robust increase of 6.1%. A total of 5,322,218 passengers traveled through airports during January and February, compared to 5,018,004 in the same period last year.
Aircraft movements—including both domestic and international flights—rose by 3.2%, with a total of 46,900 flights recorded at the nation's 39 airports overseen by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). This marks a notable rise from 45,464 flights in the first two months of 2024.
Significant 14.3% growth at CAA-managed airports
The 24 airports managed by the CAA, which includes locations such as Heraklion, Kalamata, and Alexandroupolis, saw a remarkable 14.3% surge in passenger traffic compared to the same timeframe in 2024. Specifically, passenger numbers for January-February 2025 reached 426,755, up from 373,518 the previous year.
Nikos Kazantzakis airport leads with a 30% increase in February 2025
The "Nikos Kazantzakis" airport in Heraklion, Crete, stood out by serving 125,133 passengers in February 2025, marking an impressive 30% increase from February 2024, when 96,267 passengers were recorded. Other notable increases among CAA-managed airports in February included Chios airport, which saw a 12.2% rise, and Kasos airport, with a 6.5% increase in passenger traffic.
