Today, Aktor Group successfully delivered the pivotal project of heavy maintenance, restoration, and reinforcement of the historical Axios Bridge to Egnatia Odos S.A., which is now open for traffic. The official handover was attended by prominent figures including the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Mr. Christos Dimas, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, Mr. Nikos Tachiaos, members of parliament, and local government representatives.
The project, titled "Urgent Restoration and Reinforcement Works for the Structural Integrity of the Old Bridge on the Right Bank of the Axios River," was initiated as a priority in 2023 by Egnatia Odos S.A. The Aktor Group undertook significant updates to the existing study and executed all necessary interventions to enhance the bridge's structural and functional safety. As a result, the bridge is now restored for safe use by passing vehicles.
In 2023, static assessments revealed that the bridge, which has been in service since 1973, had sustained considerable damage due to flooding and the increased load from frequent heavy vehicle traffic. This deterioration had caused a critical decline in its safety coefficient, necessitating traffic restrictions on the important road segment between the Western and Eastern Sectors of Egnatia Odos, specifically along the A/K Kliidi – A/K Kalochoriou route.
