Greece’s 1H central govt cash balance at -2.9b euros; Primary deficit at 1.5b euros

Greece’s central government cash balance recorded a deficit of 964 million euros in the first eight months of the year against a deficit of 5.6 billion euros in the year-ago period. 
 
The primary position was positive by 14.5 billion euros against a deficit of 574 million euros in the year-ago period. In August alone, the central government posted a primary deficit of 1.9 billion euros compared with 1.2 billion euros in the respective month of 2022. 
 
In the January-August period, ordinary revenues stood at 39.6 billion euros, up from 35.7 billion euros  in the corresponding period of last year. Budget expenditure amounted to 39.0 billion euros, from 39.2 billion euros in January-August 2022.
