IMF sees growing primary surpluses in Greece ; Debt to fall to 160.2% of GDP in '24
The general government balance is projected to show a primary surplus of 0.1% of GDP in 2022, 1.0% of GDP in 2023 and 2% of GDP in 2024-2025, and then to average 2.2% in subsequent years up until 2028.

Greece is projected to maintain and increase a government primary surplus in the coming years while public debt is estimated to drop considerably, according to the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) Fiscal Monitor report. 

The general government balance is projected to show a primary surplus of 0.1% of GDP in 2022, 1.0% of GDP in 2023 and 2% of GDP in 2024-2025, and then to average 2.2% of GDP in subsequent years up until 2028. 

The general government deficit is seen dropping from 2.3% of GDP in 2022 to 1.6% of GDP in 2023 before dropping to 0.8% of GDP in 2024.

The public debt is seen falling from 178.1% of GDP in 2022 to 168% of GDP in 2023 and 160.2% of GDP in 2024 and to continue to decline over the coming years to reach 145.3% of GDP in 2028.
