The terrorist attacks carried out by Hamas in Israel and the situation in the Gaza Strip, as well as their repercussions for Greece and the surrounding region, were discussed at a meeting of the Government Council on National Security (KYSEA), government spokesperson said. 

The emergency meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, reviewed of the situation in the region and was briefed on the repatriations of Greek citizens from Israel, coordinated by the foreign ministry, spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis said. 

“All aspects of the crisis in the region were discussed, with an emphasis on security, internal and external. The Greek authorities are always on alert. The policy of guarding the land and sea borders continues with undiminished intensity,” an announcement said. 

The Athens international airport 'Eleftherios Venizelos' is one of four airports in Europe that serve repatriation flights from Israel for Greek and foreign citizens.
