Finance Minister Costis Hatzidakis and Bank of Greece head Yannis Stournaras welcomed the Alpha Bank-Unicredit mega deal. 

“The fact that a large European bank invests in the Greek banking system after many years is a tangible evidence that both local banks and the country’s economy have entered into a rising and promising course,” Hatzidakis said.  

For his part, Stournaras said the deal reflects the “economy’s increased creditworthiness in the recent years.” 

“Bank of Greece welcomes the Uncicreditm-Alpha agreement, the first significant deal between a large European bank and a Greek system banks after financial crisis of the previous decade.”
