The auctions for the allocation of slots at the Revithoussa LNG Terminal station by DESFA are progressing successfully.
The capacity has already been covered until 2026 through the auctions that took place since October, and most of the slots for 2028 are almost fully booked.
According to DESFA's published data, 21 out of the 23 slots available for commitment in 2027 have been secured, with the participation of four interested parties, three from within Greece and one from abroad. For this year, the remaining 21 out of a total of 45 slots were already closed last year.
Regarding the capacity for 2028, a total of 30 out of the available 44 slots have been committed so far.
NEW MODEL
It is reminded that starting this year, DESFA has introduced a new model for conducting auctions with a horizon of 15 years, compared to the previous limit of 5 years. The goal is to provide large players-users of Revythousa the opportunity to enter into long-term gas purchase contracts, ensuring more competitive prices. Simultaneously, transparency in procedures is ensured, contributing to the strengthening of the country's and the wider region's energy supply security.
As part of this, auctions are held every week from October to early 2024 to cover capacity for the period 2024-2038, with a two-week break during the Christmas holidays. During this period, each week corresponds to one year. It is noted that if, at the end of the last round of the auction, the offer falls short of the demand for additional capacity, the auction is completed by distributing the available capacity in proportion to the users' demand.
The slots in the process are offered either as a bundle or as individual LNG unloading slots up to 1 TWh (147,000 m3) or 0.5 TWh (73,000 m3). In this new model, the predefined temporary storage period is set at up to 13 days during the winter season and up to 18 days for the rest of the year.
