Greece will repay earlier than expected, in December, loans amounting to €5.3 billion to eurozone countries from the first bailout program, and it hopes to take similar actions in 2024, according to Greek officials from the Ministry of Finance who spoke to Reuters.

"On December 15, we will repay earlier than scheduled €5.3 billion to the eurozone countries," said an official who spoke to Reuters on condition of anonymity, adding that this concerns loan payments due in 2024 and 2025.

As noted in its exclusive report, Reuters states that the eurozone and the International Monetary Fund lent Greece more than €260 billion during the decade-long debt crisis that began in late 2009, demanding harsh austerity measures in return.
