The establishment of postal voting for the upcoming European elections was announced by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis during a cabinet meeting.
"Today, we are taking a significant step forward. We are introducing postal voting for those who wish to use it, both within and outside Greece," he stated.
Mr. Mitsotakis referred to it as a "historic turning point and a bold institutional reform," something that most countries have adopted, and it is time for it to be implemented in our country.
According to him, its implementation is the most robust response to voter abstention and apathy because, regarding the international voters, there will be no need to organize special electoral sections. "Every expatriate registered in the electoral rolls will be able to vote from their own home, with all the necessary security measures," he added.
At the same time, the same option will be given to citizens within Greece. "I am referring to several categories for whom physical presence at the polls is not easy, such as the elderly, people with disabilities, students, and workers. All of them, if they choose, will be able to vote by postal ballot," he emphasized.
