Cenergy Holdings announces that Corinth Pipeworks, its steel pipes segment, was awarded a contract with a value of more than EUR 27 million by DESFA, the Hellenic Gas Transmission System Operator, for the manufacture and supply of approximately 56km of 30-inch longitudinally welded steel pipes (LSAW) for the development of the Greek part of the Natural Gas Interconnector between Greece and North Macedonia (IGNM).

The development of IGNM will further strengthen the role of Greece as an energy hub, creating new energy routes for Southeast Europe and capitalizing on DESFA’s gas infrastructure, such as the LNG Terminal in Revithoussa and the National Natural Gas Transmission System, providing also access for the import of LNG from multiple supply sources, and enhancing diversification and security of supply in the region.

This will be the second pipeline in Greece that will also be able to transfer hydrogen up to 100%, being part of the country’s hydrogen backbone. It will contribute to further development of a regional hydrogen market for Southeast and Central Europe.

This collaboration to develop infrastructure that is compatible with transferring hydrogen facilitates the growth of a robust hydrogen market. The implementation of such key investments enables the transmission of renewable gases, leading the energy transition of Greece and the region.

The new DESFA’s High Pressure Pipeline will stretch from N. Messimvria to the borderline of Greece/North Macedonia, east of Evzoni / Gevgelia, where a Border Metering Station will be installed for the connection with the Natural Gas Transmission System of North Macedonia.

The pipeline will be certified to transport up to 100% hydrogen. In compliance with specification ASME B31.12 Option B, Corinth Pipeworks and DESFA cooperation provides a technically and economically feasible solution for the safe transportation of hydrogen at high pressures through large diameter/high strength steel pipelines.

The entire quantity of 30-inch, hydrogen certified, pipes will be manufactured in Corinth Pipeworks’ production facilities in Thisvi, Greece. Scope of supply also includes internal and threelayer polyethylene, external coating, as well as hot induction bends, applied at the same location as pipe manufacturing.
