Today's session was one of intense volatility on the Athens Stock Exchange, as the initial recovery effort failed, but in the end, the losses were contained and the market closed after a two-day correction with a small rise. At the same time, the maintenance for a second day at the technical support levels is considered positive.
The General Index closed with a gain of 0.19% at 1,386.38 points with a transaction value of over 113 million euros. Earlier in the session, the GC had recorded a fall of up to 0.51% to 1,376.62 points and a gain of 0.75% to 1,394.08 points. The high-cap index rose 0.21%, while the mid-cap index gained 0.16%.
The banking index closed up 0.34% at 1,167.64 points. Eurobank closed with a gain of 1.2%, Alpha gained 0.67%, while ETE recorded a marginal decline of 0.03% and Piraeus fell 0.46%. Among the high-cap stocks, Autohellas (+5.30%), Hellaktor (+2.86%), Aegean Airlines (+1.96%) and PPC (+1.33%) recorded the biggest increase.
On the contrary, Elvalhalcor (-2.30%), Viohalco (-0.76%), Jumbo (-0.76%) and Motor Oil (-0.74%) recorded the biggest decline. Alpha Bank and Piraeus showed the highest trading volume, moving 6,995,536 and 4,980,158 shares, respectively. With 19.47 million euros and 18.54 million euros, National Bank and Piraeus recorded the highest trading value. 61 shares moved up, 50 down and 13 remained stable.
