Greece's trade deficit increased by 34% in February this year, as imports increased and, on the other hand, the value of exports fell sharply.

In particular, according to ELSTAT (Ηellenic Statistic data on merchandise trade: The total value of imports in February 2024 amounted to €6,997.8 million compared to €6,746.7 million in the same month of 2023, showing an increase of 3.7% (excluding petroleum products there was an increase of €389.1 million or 8.1%, while excluding petroleum products and ships there was an increase of €407.8 million or 8.6%).

The total value of exports amounted to €3,963.9 million compared to €4,482.8 million in February 2023, a decrease of 11.6% (excluding oil products there was a decrease of €54.4 million or 1.8%, while excluding oil products and ships there was a decrease of €11.1 million or 0.4%). The trade deficit amounted to €3,033.9 million compared to €2,263.9 million in February 2023, an increase of 34% (excluding oil products there was an increase of €443.5 million or 24.1%, while excluding oil products and ships there was an increase of €418.9 million or 22.7%).

In the first two months, the total value of imports amounted to €13,584.3 million compared to €13,737.7 million in the same period of 2023, a decrease of 1.1% (excluding petroleum products there was an increase of €234.1 million or 2.4%, while excluding petroleum products and ships there was an increase of €235.6 million or 2.5%).

The total value of exports amounted to €7,970.0 million compared to €8,996.5 million in the first two months of 2023, a decrease of 11.4% (excluding oil products there was a decrease of €307.5 million or 5.2%, while excluding oil products and ships there was a decrease of €259.2 million or 4.4%). The trade deficit amounted to EUR 5,614.3 million compared with EUR 4,741.2 million in the first two months of 2023, an increase of 18.4% (excluding oil products, there was an increase of EUR 541.6 million or 14.6%, while excluding oil products and ships there was an increase of EUR 494.8 million or 13.3%).
