Greek exports moved downward in February 2024, continuing the same course as in January 2024, exceeding €7.9 billion in total in the first two months of 2024.

According to Hellenic Statistical Authority data, which was processed by Greek Exporters Association, the value of Greek exports fell to €3.964 billion in February 2024 compared to €4.483 billion in February last year. In contrast, imports for the month of February moved upwards and from €6.747 billion last year to €6.998 billion this year. The decrease in the value of Greek exports excluding petroleum products was imperceptible, as from €2.972 billion in February 2023, it fell to €2.917 billion in February 2024, a decrease of only 1.8%, €54.4 million. At the same time, imports stood at 5.20 billion from 4.812 billion in February last year, with the trade deficit standing at €2.283 billion, increasing by 443.5 million.

THE FIRST TWO MONTHS OF THE YEAR

As for the first two months of this year, exports have already exceeded 7.9 billion. Specifically, they stood at 7.97 billion, falling by 1.026 billion (i.e. 11.4%) compared to the same period in 2023. Imports were almost at the same level as last year, namely 13.584 billion, with a decrease of 153.4 million euros (i.e. 1.1%), while the trade deficit swelled from 4.741 billion last year to 5.614 billion this year. Excluding petroleum products, exports in the first two months of this year fell to 5.604 billion, registering a 5.2% drop, while imports amounted to 9.854 billion, an increase of 2.4%, or 234.1 million euros.

FOOD, DRINKS AND TOBACCO

On the other hand, exports declined in the sectors of petroleum products (699.1 million euros, i.e. -21.9%), fats and oils (198.1 million euros, i.e. -48.5%), raw materials (47.7 million euros, i.e. -14.8%), industrial products (169.5 million euros, i.e. -169.5 million euros), and other industrial products (169.5 million euros, i.e. -14.8%), 169 million, i.e. -13.5%) and miscellaneous manufactured articles (44.9 million, i.e. -7.7%). Chemicals and machinery - transport equipment showed a milder decrease of -5% and -4.1% respectively.
