"In the Nea Democracy's electoral list, people from different paths, representing different professional paths and every corner of Greece, who can come together under the same political roof, which can unite". This was stressed by Kyriakos Mitsotakis, during the presentation of the ND's European candidate list. He asked those present to pay special attention "to those who participate and are not the best known. Study and make the best possible choice according to your own criteria".
The Prime Minister said he was "confident that the new Eurogroup that will emerge from the elections will represent us worthily in a European Parliament and in a Europe that will face many great challenges in the next European cycle. The New Democracy in these challenges must be strong. We are the party of Europe and we are the party that steadily brings the country closer to Europe. In this changing Europe, it is of great importance that the strong voice of our country is heard in this changing Europe. A strong New Democracy in a changing Europe."
Fredi Beleri, the imprisoned mayor-elect of the southern Albanian coastal city of Himare, was announced as one of the candidates of Greece’s ruling party, New Democracy (ND), for the upcoming European Parliament election in June.
Beleri’s brother, Leonardos Beleri, is representing him at the ongoing ballot announcement in downtown Athens, as Beleri is currently in Albanian police custody.
The announcement is seen as a direct manifestation of official continuing Greece’s displeasure with the arrest and subsequent conviction of Beleri by a special anti-corruption court in Tirana on what the latter and his attorneys have charged are trumped up vote-buying charges.
Other candidates include New Democracy’s current MEPs, Greek journalists Giorgos Aftias and Eleonora Meleti, and former weightlifter Pyrros Dimas.
