Spyros Theodoropoulos has officially announced his candidacy for the presidency of the Association of Enterprises and Industries. This was preceded by the announcement by the current president, Dimitris Papalexopoulos, that he would not seek a third term.
"The announcement of Spyros Theodoropoulos:
It is with pleasure and a sense of responsibility that I announce today my intention to stand as a candidate in the upcoming elections for the Presidency of the Association of Business and Industry. I already informed the Board of Directors of the Association yesterday, as I ought to have done.
This decision follows my 21 years of activity as a member of the SEV Board of Directors, the last 10 of which were as Vice President responsible for labour issues.
The successes of SEV in recent years have been many. We have effectively defended the interests of our members, while as social partners we have contributed significantly to the maintenance of social cohesion and the progress of the Greek economy.
It is no coincidence that for decades, SEV has been recognised as the most authoritative representative of private initiative in our country. In the last four years, moreover, the number of SEV members has reached unprecedented levels.
But the challenges, which need to be addressed immediately and decisively, remain many.
The energy crisis and the green transition, the continuous reduction of non-wage labour costs, the prices of raw materials, the disruption of the supply chain due to geopolitical developments, technological development, and at the same time the shortage of labour and the protection of the mental health of workers are just some of the issues that we are called upon to address in a new, ever-changing reality."
Therefore, despite a long-standing tradition of having only one candidate, Sp. Theodoropoulos and the CEO of the Tsetis Pharmaceuticals Group (OFET), Ioulia Tsetis, will be running for president.
